Vintage canvas, coated canvas, and nylon bags combine timeless style with durability. Canvas develops a unique texture with age, while coated canvas retains its water-resistant qualities. Nylon is lightweight, easy to clean, and resists wear, making all three perfect for everyday use and long-lasting appeal.
Canvas bags and nylon bags differ in material, durability, and functionality. Canvas bags, made from natural fibers, are sturdy, eco-friendly, and offer a classic aesthetic but are heavier and less water-resistant. Nylon bags, crafted from synthetic fibers, are lightweight, water-resistant, and modern in appearance, but less sustainable. Canvas is ideal for durability and style, while nylon suits portability and wet conditions.
Canvas is a woven fabric-like material that is sturdy and long lasting. Sometimes, it comes au naturel, but most often it has a PVC coating, making it extra durable. The PVC coating is incredibly easy to care for and isn’t as susceptible to water damage as a leather bag. Most of the time, a simple cloth and water and soap solution is plenty to wipe the bag down.
A stain on your pre-loved coated canvas bag might seem scary, but don’t get ahead of yourself! A damp cloth is recommended for a reason. Stay away from strong chemicals such as vinegar, acetone and bleach as it could dissolve the coating and create even bigger damage.
Even though your precious canvas bag is extremely durable, there is a risk of cracks appearing if cared for improperly. These cracks cannot be fixed so we recommend preventive care. Do not fold your bag for prolonged periods of time, as the creases could eventually crack. Store the bag in a dark, cool place to prevent sunlight from drying it out. The risk of your canvas bag cracking is small, but it’s always a good idea to be on the safe side, so when storing an unstructured bag, place some paper or clothing inside to keep it upright.
Nylon is a durable synthetic material that is as lightweight and easy to care for as it is stylish! Nylon is another example of a material that is easy to clean, as it only requires soap and water. Use a damp cloth along with some mild soap and gently rub it on the stain. Continue blotting the stain with the damp cloth until the stain and soap is removed. If the stain is particularly tough you can use a soft toothbrush to gently rub the stain. Remember to blot away excess water and to air dry naturally. This fabric though is susceptible to scents and odors. Avoid spraying it with perfume and keep it away from scented items as it can absorb the scents based on how the material is made. If you get it wet in cleaning or by accident, always make sure it’s dry before you store it. Avoid long exposure to the sun as this can bleach it and push the color to fade.
