Q: Is this Chanel Coco Mark Long Necklace authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What is it made from? Is it real gold and are the pearls genuine?
A: Chanel costume jewellery is typically crafted from plated base metal in a gold‑tone finish with glass crystals and imitation (faux) pearls—so it is not solid gold and the pearls are not natural or cultured. This piece features a crystal‑embellished CC pendant with No.5, heart and star charms accented by faux pearls, in keeping with Chanel’s fashion‑jewellery materials.

Q: How long is the chain and where will it sit when worn?
A: The necklace perimeter is approximately 60 cm. This corresponds to a matinee‑length chain that generally sits on the upper to mid‑chest on most wearers. The pendant is about 8 cm (height) × 3.5 cm (width) × 1 cm (depth), giving a statement drop.

Q: How does it fasten?
A: It closes with a spring‑ring clasp. Always check the ring is fully closed before wear; a jeweller can add a short extender or safety jump ring if you prefer extra security or a slightly longer drop.

Q: What do the No.5, heart and star motifs signify?
A: The number 5 is an iconic Chanel symbol (Gabrielle Chanel’s favourite and the name of the House’s legendary fragrance), while stars are long‑standing Chanel motifs. These charms appear frequently across Chanel jewellery collections and add house‑signature meaning to the design.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect on a vintage Chanel necklace?
A: Most vintage Chanel necklaces carry an oval or round plaque stamped CHANEL and often “Made in France/Italy.” Many pieces also include season codes (e.g., letters such as A for Autumn or P for Spring with digits for the year). Placement and format vary by era; please refer to our photos for the exact stamps on this piece.

Q: Is it nickel‑free and suitable for sensitive skin?
A: Fashion/costume jewellery alloys can contain nickel. If you have sensitivities, consider wearing the necklace over clothing or applying a clear barrier to contact points. Discontinue wear if any irritation occurs and seek medical advice if needed.

Q: Can I wear it in the shower, at the gym, or spray perfume on it?
A: We recommend keeping Chanel costume jewellery dry and away from perfume, lotions, hairspray and hand sanitiser. Moisture and chemicals can dull the crystals, reduce pearl lustre and accelerate wear to the gold‑tone plating. Remove before showering, swimming, exercising or sleeping, and wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wear.

Q: Can the necklace be adjusted, repaired or re‑plated?
A: A competent jeweller can usually add a short extender, adjust/replace the clasp and perform light re‑plating if ever required. Chanel boutiques primarily provide servicing for Fine Jewellery; for costume pieces, they offer care guidance but repairs/replating are not routinely provided—independent specialists are often used. Alterations may affect originality and resale value.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included and can I return it?
A: This necklace is in Very Good Condition with light signs of careful wear possible. It comes with no accessories unless specifically shown or stated. Returns are accepted in line with our standard policy—please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes and conditions, and return the item in the same condition received.
