Q: What typically fits inside the Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene Thames PM?
A: With approximate dimensions of 30 × 17 × 5 cm, it’s ideal for daily essentials: a large smartphone, compact or continental wallet, keys, slim sunglasses in a soft case and a small cosmetics pouch. A5 notebooks may fit when placed horizontally; small tablets are generally a squeeze due to the curved zip opening. If you’d like a tailored fit check for a specific item, just ask and we’ll test this exact piece.

Q: Can I wear it crossbody? Is the strap adjustable?
A: The Thames PM is designed for shoulder carry. This piece has a single adjustable shoulder strap with an approximate drop of 22–25 cm, which is comfortable on the shoulder but typically too short for crossbody wear on most frames.

Q: How secure is the closure and what is the interior layout?
A: It features a top zip closure for everyday security. Inside you’ll find red canvas lining and one slip pocket for smaller valuables. Our listing photos show the exact layout of this bag.

Q: Is the Thames PM still produced?
A: The Thames PM is a discontinued style. The pre‑loved market is the best way to find specific configurations like Damier Ebene.

Q: What does the date code AR0089 mean?
A: In Louis Vuitton’s mid‑2000s to 2021 format, the 1st and 3rd digits indicate the production week and the 2nd and 4th digits indicate the year. “AR0089” decodes to week 08 of 2009, and “AR” denotes a French factory. Note that from around 2021, LV transitioned to embedded microchips instead of visible date codes; date codes help with dating but are not proof of authenticity on their own.

Q: Where is the date code typically located and can it fade?
A: On many LV bags, the code is stamped on a small leather tab along an interior seam or inside a pocket. On textile linings it can be stamped directly and may lighten with age—this is normal and does not affect usability.

Q: What materials and hardware does this bag use?
A: It’s crafted from Louis Vuitton’s Damier Ebene coated canvas with dark brown leather trim and gold‑tone hardware. The interior is lined in red textile. Many Thames PM bags also feature a front nameplate—please refer to our photos for the exact details of this piece.

Q: How durable is Damier Ebene canvas? Is it water‑resistant?
A: Damier Ebene is a robust PVC‑coated canvas that’s water‑repellent for everyday use, though not fully waterproof. Wipe the canvas with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Keep the leather trim away from moisture and from dark or untested fabrics to avoid colour transfer. Store the bag upright, lightly stuffed, in a breathable dust bag.

Q: I’ve heard about glazing/edge wear on LV bags—what should I expect?
A: Over time, the waxed edges (glazing) on straps and trims can show wear from friction or humidity (peeling, micro‑cracking or stickiness). With normal use and proper storage, many owners enjoy years before any treatment is needed. If required, Louis Vuitton boutiques or reputable luxury specialists can assess reglazing or strap replacement on a case‑by‑case basis.

Q: What accessories are included with this item?
A: This listing is sold as the bag only; no accessories are included. Any extras (e.g., dust bag or box) would be listed under “Accessories.” If an accessory isn’t mentioned there, it isn’t included—feel free to contact us for confirmation.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, stitching, hardware, stamps, the date code/microchip era and overall construction. We stand behind the authenticity of every piece we sell and can provide additional photos or details on request.
