Q: Who designed the Open Heart motif?
A: The Open Heart is an Elsa Peretti design for Tiffany & Co., renowned for its fluid, sculptural silhouette with a cut-out centre that symbolises love. It has been a house icon since the 1970s.

Q: What is the size and how do these studs sit on the ear?
A: Each earring measures approximately 1.0 × 1.2 cm (see Measurements on this page). They are lightweight sterling silver studs for pierced ears with butterfly back closures, designed to sit at a gentle angle on the lobe.

Q: Are they made of sterling silver and suitable for sensitive ears?
A: Yes. They are crafted in 925 sterling silver. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver alloyed mainly with copper; many people with sensitive ears find it comfortable, though individual reactions can vary. If you have known metal allergies, please wear with care or consult a jeweller.

Q: Do sterling silver earrings tarnish?
A: Sterling silver can naturally tarnish over time due to exposure to air, moisture and sulphur compounds. Regular wear and proper storage slow this process, and routine cleaning restores lustre quickly.

Q: How should I clean and care for them?
A: Wipe after wear with a soft silver‑polishing cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a silver jewellery cleaner as directed, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemicals, perfume, lotions and chlorinated water; remove before swimming, showering or gym sessions. Store completely dry in a soft pouch or anti‑tarnish bag, away from humidity.

Q: What hallmarks should I expect on vintage Elsa Peretti silver earrings?
A: Hallmarks vary by era and production. Many genuine examples show Tiffany & Co., Peretti and 925 marks; some vintage Peretti silver pieces may also include a country mark. For this specific pair, please refer to our close‑up photos and description.

Q: Are the two studs left/right specific?
A: The open heart silhouette has a gentle tilt; you can rotate each stud slightly to achieve your preferred angle on the ear. Fit and look are easily adjusted to taste.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: The earrings only. Unless explicitly listed under Accessories, a box, pouch or paperwork is not included with this vintage piece.

Q: Can the earring backs be replaced?
A: Yes. These use standard friction posts and butterfly backs. A jeweller can supply sterling silver replacements or tighter‑fit backs if you prefer a different feel for everyday wear.

Q: Are they suitable for everyday wear?
A: Absolutely. Their compact size and smooth edges make them ideal for daily use. To maintain their finish, avoid rough contact and follow the care tips above.
