Q: Are these pierced or clip-on earrings?
A: They are clip-on hoop earrings, so no piercing is required. For comfort and a secure fit, you can add soft silicone clip-on pads and have a jeweller fine-tune the clip tension if needed. Avoid over-bending the hardware yourself to prevent stress to the metal.

Q: Are they solid gold?
A: No. These are Chanel fashion jewellery earrings in gold-tone metal. Chanel’s fine jewellery pieces are the ones crafted in precious metals such as 18k gold; fashion jewellery typically uses gold-tone metal and decorative elements. Care for them gently to preserve the finish.

Q: Will clip-on earrings hurt or feel heavy?
A: Clip-ons can pinch if the tension is too tight or if the style is substantial. These hoops are a statement size (approx. 4.3 × 4 × 1.3 cm). To improve comfort, use silicone pads, limit continuous wear to a few hours, and ensure the clips are correctly adjusted by a professional. Keeping the earlobe dry (no oils or creams) also helps grip and reduces slip.

Q: Can these be converted to pierced earrings?
A: It is technically possible but not recommended. Conversion permanently alters the piece and may reduce collector value for vintage Chanel. If you prefer pierced styles, consider choosing a similar pierced design instead. If you still wish to proceed, consult a skilled jeweller and request a reversible approach if feasible.

Q: How should I clean and care for them?
A: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after each wear. Avoid contact with water, perfume, cosmetics and cleaning chemicals, and do not soak. Store each earring separately in a soft pouch or box, away from humidity and direct light, to protect the gold-tone finish and any embellishments.

Q: How does A Retro Tale authenticate Chanel earrings?
A: Every item is rigorously vetted by our in-house experts using multi-point checks of materials, construction, stamps/plaques, logos and date marks, and overall consistency with known Chanel manufacturing. We stand behind the authenticity of all items and can share additional images or details on request.

Q: What stamps or signatures should I expect on vintage Chanel earrings?
A: Many vintage pieces feature an oval or round plaque on the reverse stamped CHANEL, often with Made in France and season/date codes. Markings have varied by era and collection, and not every piece is stamped the same way. Use stamps as one indicator alongside overall construction and provenance.

Q: Are these suitable for sensitive skin?
A: As with most fashion jewellery, the metal is a plated base metal rather than solid hypoallergenic gold. If you have sensitivities, limit wear time, keep the skin clean and dry, and consider using silicone pads as a barrier where the clip contacts the ear.

Q: What is included with this pair?
A: This listing is sold without accessories. Everything included is always listed under Accessories on this page; if an item like a box or authenticity card is not listed, it is not included.

Q: Can the clip mechanism be repaired or tightened if it loosens over time?
A: Yes. Many jewellers can adjust clip tension, replace worn pads and check hinges. For Chanel fine jewellery, the brand offers in-boutique services; for fashion jewellery like this pair, seek an experienced costume jewellery specialist for adjustments and care.
