Q: What collection is the Chanel Maharaja bag from?
A: The Maharaja (often called Maharaja Express) pieces are part of Chanel’s Paris–Bombay Métiers d’Art 2011/12 theme under Karl Lagerfeld. This design is known for its vertical quilting, glossy patent finish and a square CC press-lock, produced in limited seasonal runs.

Q: What fits inside this bag day to day?
A: With approximate interior capacity based on 30 × 20 × 11 cm, it comfortably fits a long continental wallet, smartphone, keys, sunglasses case, small cosmetics pouch and a compact umbrella. It can also hold a standard 10–11‑inch tablet; it will not fit A4 files upright.

Q: Can it be worn crossbody?
A: The single chain‑and‑leather strap has an approximate drop of 27 cm and is designed for shoulder carry. It is not adjustable and not intended for crossbody wear.

Q: What is included in the product information for this item?
A: This item includes a serial number tag. Anything not specifically listed in the product information (such as a dust bag, box or authenticity card) is not included—please contact us if you need clarification.

Q: How should I care for the patent leather?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, non‑abrasive cloth and avoid harsh solvents. Keep away from prolonged heat, humidity and direct sunlight. When storing, do not overfill; wrap the chain to prevent impressions, and store upright in a breathable dust bag, away from plastics or other leathers to minimise colour migration.

Q: Is colour transfer a concern with patent leather?
A: Yes—patent can pick up dyes from contrasting materials (for example, dark denim on light patent, or vice versa). Although this piece is black, we still recommend avoiding prolonged contact with contrasting colours and textured fabrics to minimise transfer and surface rubbing.

Q: The description mentions scuffs and scratches—can they be improved?
A: Minor surface marks on patent can sometimes be reduced with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and light buffing. Deeper scuffs, cloudiness or stickiness require a professional leather specialist; we do not recommend DIY use of acetone or strong cleaners on patent finishes.

Q: What does the serial number tell me?
A: Chanel serial numbers are unique identifiers that help indicate a production period and support authenticity when considered with other details. A 16‑series code typically points to the early 2010s. Note that a serial alone cannot confirm a model and not all items retain their original card.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: Every piece at A Retro Tale is vetted by our experts using multi‑point checks of materials, stitching, brand stamps, serial/series, hardware and overall construction. We stand behind the authenticity of all items and can provide additional photos or details on request.
