Q: What typically fits inside the Louis Vuitton Hampstead GM?
A: With approximate measurements of 36 × 33 × 20 cm, it easily holds A4 documents or a diary, a 13-inch laptop, a water bottle, a long wallet and daily essentials. Most slim 14-inch laptops also fit; a 15-inch may fit depending on the case and how you pack. Please compare with the Measurements on this page for your exact device.

Q: How does the bag close and how secure is it?
A: The Hampstead GM has an open top with a central hook/clasp closure, plus side snap buttons to cinch or expand the shape. As it is not zipped, we suggest using a pouch or bag organiser for small valuables when travelling or on crowded commutes.

Q: Are the shoulder straps adjustable and will it sit comfortably over a coat?
A: Yes. The dual flat shoulder straps are adjustable via buckles. On this piece the drop is approximately 27 cm, which is generally comfortable on the shoulder, including over light outerwear.

Q: Is the Hampstead GM still in production?
A: The Hampstead line is no longer part of Louis Vuitton’s current collection and is found on the pre-loved market. Availability is therefore limited and varies by condition and year of production.

Q: Where is the date code located and what if I cannot read it?
A: On many Hampstead bags the date code is stamped on a leather tab along the seam of an interior pocket and can be hard to see against the red microfibre. Louis Vuitton uses date codes (not unique serial numbers) to indicate factory and period, and these can fade with wear. The stamp on this piece is illegible, but the item has been fully authenticated by A Retro Tale’s specialists.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: Everything included is listed under the product information section on this page. For this piece, no additional items are included unless explicitly stated there.

Q: How should I care for Damier Ebene canvas and the lining?
A: Wipe the coated canvas with a soft cloth slightly dampened with water and a tiny amount of mild soap if needed; avoid alcohol-based products, harsh cleaners, and coloured cloths. Allow to air-dry away from heat. For the red microfibre lining, gently shake out debris and use a clean lint roller or soft brush; avoid wet cleaning inside. Store the bag loosely stuffed in a breathable dust bag to help it keep its shape.

Q: Is it suitable for rainy days and everyday use?
A: Damier Ebene coated canvas is durable and more water-resistant than untreated leathers, and the dark brown leather trim is relatively low-maintenance. Light rain is fine—simply wipe dry promptly—but avoid soaking the bag and prolonged exposure to moisture or heat.

Q: Is the Hampstead GM heavier than some other LV totes?
A: Yes, the Hampstead is a structured tote with a thicker lining, so it tends to feel heavier than very lightweight styles like the Neverfull. The trade-off is a more structured silhouette and a tidier interior with multiple pockets.

Q: There is a slight vintage odour noted—can this be reduced?
A: Yes. Air the bag in a cool, dry, shaded area with good airflow and place odour-absorbing sachets inside between uses. Avoid spraying perfumes or using harsh deodorisers directly on the canvas or lining.
