Q: What typically fits inside the Louis Vuitton Macassar Porte‑Documents Jour?
A: With approximate measurements of 37 × 28 × 6 cm, it’s ideal for business essentials: large smartphone, continental wallet, keys, slim sunglasses in a soft case, A5 diary, A4 documents, chargers and a compact tech pouch. A small umbrella or 330–500 ml water bottle can fit if kept slim and the bag isn’t overfilled.

Q: Will it fit a laptop? If so, which sizes?
A: Yes. Most 13‑inch laptops fit comfortably; many slim 14‑inch models fit too. A slender 15‑inch device may fit depending on its thickness and any sleeve used. For best results, compare your device’s dimensions with the Measurements shown here or ask us for a quick fit check on this exact piece.

Q: Can I wear it crossbody, and is the shoulder strap adjustable?
A: This bag has dual rolled handles for hand carry (approx. 13 cm drop) and a detachable, adjustable shoulder strap (approx. 55 cm drop), allowing shoulder or crossbody wear. The slim profile sits close to the body for commuting.

Q: How secure is the closure and what pockets does it have?
A: The Porte‑Documents Jour features a zip‑top main compartment for everyday security, typically with multiple interior slip pockets for a tablet and documents, plus an exterior zipped pocket for quick‑access items. Our listing photos show the exact layout of this piece, including the burgundy textile lining.

Q: What’s the purpose of the padlock? Can the zip be locked?
A: Many PDJ variants have twin zip pullers that can be secured together with a padlock as a simple deterrent when travelling or commuting. This item includes a padlock as listed under Accessories; if you’d like us to demonstrate how it fastens on this specific bag, just ask.

Q: What is Monogram Macassar and how does it differ from classic Monogram?
A: Monogram Macassar pairs Louis Vuitton’s brown Monogram coated canvas with black cowhide leather trim and silver‑tone hardware for a modern, low‑maintenance look. Unlike natural vachetta on classic Monogram (which patinates and is more sensitive to water and marks), the black leather trim tends to be more forgiving in daily use.

Q: How should I care for the coated canvas and black leather trim?
A: Wipe coated canvas with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Keep leather trim away from moisture and oils; condition sparingly with a high‑quality neutral leather product after testing on a discreet area. Avoid solvents and alcohol‑based cleaners. Store the bag upright, lightly stuffed, in a breathable dust bag, and keep hardware from rubbing against the leather to minimise marks.

Q: Will A4 documents and folders fit flat?
A: Yes—A4 documents (29.7 × 21 cm) fit flat thanks to the 37 × 28 cm footprint. Slim folders slide in easily; very bulky ring binders may be limited by the 6 cm depth and the curved zip opening.

Q: What’s the difference between Porte‑Documents Jour and Porte‑Documents Voyage?
A: The PDJ is the more compact, day‑to‑day briefcase with a front zipped pocket and an optional shoulder strap for hands‑free wear. The PDV is larger and more structured; many versions are hand‑carry only and suit heavier loads or travel paperwork. If you’re often on the move, the PDJ’s strap and slimmer profile are especially practical.

Q: Where are the brand markings and codes located, and how is this item dated?
A: Authentic Louis Vuitton bags have an interior heat‑stamp (for example, “LOUIS VUITTON Paris” and the country of origin). Pieces produced before the 2021 microchip transition usually include a date code—this bag is stamped SR1145, indicating France, week 14 of 2015. From around 2021 onwards, LV phased out visible codes in favour of an embedded microchip.

Q: Is the Porte‑Documents Jour still produced?
A: Availability varies by season and material. The model has appeared over multiple years in Monogram Macassar, Damier Graphite, Epi and other finishes, but specific editions may not be in current boutiques. The pre‑loved market is the most reliable way to source particular configurations like this Macassar version.

Q: What accessories are included with this exact item, and how is authenticity guaranteed?
A: For this listing we include a detachable shoulder strap and a padlock as stated under Accessories. If an accessory isn’t listed there, it isn’t included—feel free to ask us to confirm. Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes rigorous, multi‑point authentication by our in‑house experts, checking materials, stitching, hardware, stamps and date code/microchip; we stand behind the authenticity of every piece we sell.
