Q: Are these Chanel earrings clip-on or for pierced ears?
A: They are clip-on earrings, designed to be worn without pierced ears. The hinged backs secure gently to the earlobe.

Q: Do clip-on earrings hurt, and how can I make them more comfortable?
A: Comfort varies by ear shape and clip tension. Simple tweaks help: add soft silicone or foam comfort pads to cushion and improve grip; ensure the clips are snug but not overly tight; take short breaks during long wear; keep earlobes dry and free of lotions. A professional jeweller can fine-tune clip tension if needed.

Q: Are these solid silver?
A: No. They feature silver-toned hardware typical of Chanel costume jewellery, which is usually a plated base metal rather than solid sterling silver. Treat them as plated fashion jewellery to preserve the finish.

Q: Will clip-on earrings slip off?
A: A properly adjusted clip should feel secure but not painful. Comfort pads can add both cushioning and friction. Avoid catching them on scarves or high collars, and check the tension before heading out.

Q: Can clip-on earrings be converted to pierced?
A: Some jewellers can add posts, but we generally don’t recommend permanently altering vintage Chanel as it may affect collectability and future resale value. If you choose to explore conversion, consult an experienced jeweller and keep all original parts.

Q: How should I care for silver-tone Chanel costume earrings?
A: After wear, gently buff with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid water, soaps, perfume, hairspray and chemical cleaners, which can dull or damage plating. Store each piece separately in a soft pouch to prevent scratches and minimise exposure to humidity.

Q: Are they signed, and can you date them?
A: Many vintage Chanel clip-on earrings carry an oval cartouche on the back with CHANEL, country of origin, and sometimes a season code (for example, 01C for Spring 2001). Stamp styles vary by era, so dating relies on the exact mark, construction and finish. We’re happy to provide close-up photos of any hallmark on request.
