Q: What does the Matelassé design mean on these earrings?
A: Matelassé refers to Chanel’s signature quilted pattern, first popularised on the 2.55 handbag and often reinterpreted in jewellery. It gives these hoops their distinctive diamond-quilt texture and timeless Chanel look.

Q: Are clip-on earrings comfortable to wear for several hours?
A: Comfort varies by person and by lobe shape. These are statement-sized clip-ons; many customers find them comfortable with periodic breaks. Using soft silicone cushion pads and ensuring the clip is not over-tightened can improve comfort.

Q: Can I adjust the clip tension if they feel too tight or too loose?
A: Minor tension tweaks are usually possible on many clip mechanisms, but adjustments should be very gentle to avoid stressing the plating or hinge. If in doubt, ask a professional jeweller to adjust them for you.

Q: I have sensitive ears/nickel allergy—can I wear these?
A: Chanel costume jewellery may include base-metal components and is not guaranteed nickel-free. If you have sensitivities, consider using protective clip-on pads as a barrier, limiting wear time, and monitoring your skin. For severe allergies, consult your dermatologist for personalised advice.

Q: What are they made of—are they solid gold?
A: These are Chanel costume jewellery with a gold-tone finish over a base metal (often described as gilt or gold-tone). They are not solid gold fine jewellery pieces.

Q: How should I care for gold-tone Chanel costume earrings?
A: Follow the “last on, first off” rule. Put them on after fragrance, hairspray, and skincare; avoid water, oils, and cleaning chemicals; and wipe with a soft dry cloth after wear. Store them separately in their box or a soft pouch to prevent rubbing and scratches.

Q: Can clip-on earrings be converted to pierced?
A: In many cases a skilled jeweller can convert clip-ons to posts, but conversion may leave marks, affect plating, or reduce collectability and resale value. If you’re considering it, seek a professional assessment first.
