Q: Is this Chanel Heart Rhinestone Necklace solid silver or gold?
A: No. As a piece of Chanel costume jewellery, it features a silver‑toned plated base metal with clear glass rhinestones rather than solid precious metals. Hallmarks identify the brand and era, not metal fineness.

Q: Are the rhinestones Swarovski or another specific brand?
A: Chanel costume jewellery typically uses high‑quality glass crystals. The exact supplier varies by collection and era, so we do not attribute a specific crystal brand for this vintage piece.

Q: Is the chain length adjustable?
A: The necklace closes with a lobster clasp. Minor adjustment is usually possible by fastening to different chain links if present. Please refer to the Measurements on this page and the images for the exact configuration; if a dedicated extender is included, it will be visible in the product information.

Q: How should I clean and care for the rhinestones and plating?
A: Wipe gently with a soft, dry, lint‑free cloth. Keep away from water, perfume, lotions and cleaning chemicals. Do not soak or use ultrasonic/steam cleaners, as moisture can damage foil‑backed stones and plating. Store separately in a dry pouch to avoid scratches and tarnish transfer.

Q: Can I wear it in the shower, while swimming or during workouts?
A: We recommend you do not. Moisture, chlorine, salt and sweat can dull plating and may loosen rhinestone settings over time. Put the necklace on last and remove it first to minimise exposure to cosmetics and humidity.

Q: I have sensitive skin or a nickel allergy—can I wear this?
A: Some Chanel costume‑metal alloys may contain nickel. If you are sensitive, consider wearing the necklace over clothing, applying a clear jewellery‑shield barrier to contact points, and discontinuing use if irritation occurs. For strict nickel avoidance, a hypoallergenic alternative may suit you better.

Q: How do you authenticate this vintage Chanel necklace?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale undergoes multi‑point checks of construction, metal finish, hallmark plate/cartouche, clasp type, setting work and overall craftsmanship. Vintage Chanel often features an oval signature plaque noting CHANEL, country of manufacture and seasonal codes; we corroborate this with materials and build quality before listing.

Q: Will the silver‑toned finish wear off?
A: Plated finishes can show normal wear with age, especially on high‑friction areas. To prolong its life, avoid abrasion and chemicals, remove before strenuous activity, and store it individually so it does not rub against other pieces.

Q: What is included with this piece?
A: Everything that comes with the item is listed under product information. If a branded box, dust pouch or paperwork is not listed there, it is not included.

Q: Can missing or loose rhinestones be replaced in future?
A: Yes, specialist jewellers can usually source and colour‑match vintage‑style crystals and secure them in place. If you ever need assistance, contact us and we can recommend reputable restoration services.
