Q: Is this Chanel I Love Coco Brooch authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What is it made from? Is it real gold?
A: Chanel fashion jewellery is typically crafted from plated base metal (often brass) with decorative elements such as enamel and faux pearls. This piece features gold‑tone hardware, multicoloured enamel details and faux pearl embellishments with the interlocking CC logo. It is not solid gold unless explicitly stated.

Q: How big is it and how will it sit when worn?
A: The brooch measures approximately 4.3 cm (height) x 4.2 cm (width) x 1.1 cm (depth). It reads as a statement accent on lapels, coats and knitwear without being overly bulky for most fabrics. If you’d like the exact gram weight or a photo on model for scale, just ask and we’ll provide it.

Q: How does it fasten and is it secure?
A: It has a traditional pin‑back fastening. Always ensure the pin is fully closed before wear. For extra security, you can add a locking brooch stopper/keeper to the pin and use a small felt backing disc inside the garment to stabilise the brooch and protect the fabric.

Q: Can I wear it on coats, knitwear, scarves or bags without damaging them?
A: Yes—brooches work best on structured fabrics like wool, tweed, denim and canvas. On delicate materials (silk, fine knits), test in an inconspicuous spot and consider a felt backing or pinning through reinforced areas (lapel, seams, plackets). If using on a handbag, pin through a reinforced area or strap to avoid marking delicate leather.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect on a Chanel brooch?
A: Most Chanel brooches feature a small oval or round plaque on the reverse stamped CHANEL, usually with “Made in France/Italy” and, on many pieces, a season code. Placement and format vary by era and model. Our listing photos show any stamps present on this brooch (country of origin noted: France).

Q: Is it nickel‑free and suitable for sensitive skin?
A: Fashion/costume jewellery may contain nickel. If you have sensitivities, consider wearing it over thicker fabric, apply a clear barrier product to contact points, and discontinue use if irritation occurs. We’re happy to advise on options.

Q: How should I care for the gold‑tone finish, enamel and faux pearls?
A: Keep the brooch dry and avoid perfume, hairspray, lotions and hand sanitiser. After wear, gently wipe with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Do not soak, use ultrasonic cleaners or chemical dips. Take care to avoid knocks, as enamel can chip and faux‑pearl coatings can scuff. Store it separately in a pouch/box away from humidity and direct sunlight.

Q: Can it be repaired, replated or converted to a pendant?
A: A competent jeweller can often straighten/tighten the pin, replace a catch or perform light replating. Brooch‑to‑pendant converters are available if you’d like to wear it as a necklace—choose a size that fits the pin and avoid excessive tugging. We don’t offer in‑house modifications but can recommend reputable specialists on request. Note that alterations may affect originality and resale value.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: This brooch is in Very Good Condition with light signs of careful wear possible unless noted otherwise. This listing includes no accessories. Returns are accepted in line with our policy—please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes and conditions, and ensure the item is returned in the same condition received.
