Q: What is the length and can it be adjusted?
A: The necklace measures approximately 42 cm in perimeter. Thanks to the lobster clasp and chain links, Dior fashion necklaces typically allow a small adjustment of a few centimetres; expect a close‑neck fit with minor flexibility depending on which link you fasten. Please refer to the Measurements on this page for the exact length of this piece.

Q: What materials is this Dior necklace made from?
A: Dior fashion jewellery is usually crafted in gold‑finish plated metal over a base metal (often brass) and set with glass crystals/rhinestones. It is not solid gold; Dior reserves precious metals for its fine jewellery collections. This piece features multicoloured rhinestones on a gold‑tone chain with star details and a lobster clasp.

Q: Will it tarnish or change colour over time?
A: As with most plated fashion jewellery, gentle signs of wear and some colour change can occur over time. To help preserve the finish, avoid contact with water, perfume, lotions, hairspray and cleaning products; wipe with a soft dry cloth after wear and store it in a dry pouch, separate from other pieces.

Q: Can I shower or swim while wearing it?
A: We do not recommend exposure to water. Moisture and chemicals can dull plating and may damage rhinestones, especially if they are foil‑backed. Do not soak the necklace; for cleaning, use a soft dry cloth. If needed, use a barely damp cloth very sparingly and keep moisture away from the backs of the stones.

Q: Are the rhinestones Swarovski crystals?
A: Dior has a long history of using brilliant crystals, and the House famously collaborated with Swarovski in the 1950s on the aurora borealis effect. However, not every piece uses Swarovski and, without original documentation, we do not attribute a specific stone maker for this vintage necklace.

Q: What does the star motif signify in Dior jewellery?
A: The star is one of Monsieur Dior’s lucky symbols. According to the House’s archives, he found a metal star on 18 April 1946 and considered it a sign of destiny, so the star became a recurring emblem across Dior creations, including jewellery.

Q: How can I tell if a vintage Dior necklace is authentic?
A: Authentic Dior fashion jewellery typically bears a signature on the clasp or an attached plaque. Earlier pieces may read Chr. Dior, while later ones often show Christian Dior with a copyright symbol and, in many cases, a year. Hallmarks, quality of plating, crisp lettering and construction are key checks. Every item at A Retro Tale is multi‑point authenticated by our specialists; additional photos can be provided on request.

Q: Can missing stones be replaced or the necklace repaired?
A: Yes—specialist costume‑jewellery repairers can usually source and set replacement rhinestones and secure settings. Brand boutiques may have limited service for older fashion jewellery, so we generally recommend reputable independent repairers familiar with vintage rhinestones.

Q: Is it safe for sensitive skin or nickel allergies?
A: Fashion‑jewellery alloys may contain nickel, so we cannot guarantee this piece is nickel‑free. If you are sensitive, consider using a clear barrier on contact points, limiting wear time, or choosing precious‑metal jewellery for daily wear. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.

Q: What is included with this item?
A: This necklace is offered as shown with no accessories. Everything included is always listed under Accessories on the product page; if an item (such as a box or dust bag) is not listed there, it is not included.
