Q: Is this Chanel Coco Mark Icon Leather Choker authentic?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously vetted by our in‑house experts and sold with our authenticity commitment. Shop with confidence.

Q: What is it made from? Is it real gold?
A: This vintage Chanel choker features black leather interwoven through a chain with gold‑tone plated metal hardware and multiple iconic Chanel charms. It is fashion jewellery, not solid gold. Please review the close‑up photos and contact us if you’d like us to confirm any aspect of the composition for this piece.

Q: What are the measurements and how will it fit?
A: The necklace length is approximately 38 cm, with a band height of about 1.5 cm and a depth of around 0.4 cm. At 38 cm, it wears as a true choker on most necks, sitting high at the base of the neck. For best fit, measure your neck snugly and allow 1–2 cm for comfort; if you’d like us to confirm drop length or additional measurements, just ask and we’ll measure them for you.

Q: Is it adjustable or can it be resized?
A: It fastens with a lobster clasp and may allow slight adjustability using the existing end links. If you need extra length, a jeweller can add a discreet extender; permanent resizing is not recommended due to the leather‑through‑chain construction. We’re happy to advise on extender options.

Q: How secure is the clasp?
A: The lobster clasp is a reliable closure for everyday wear. Ensure the clasp is fully closed on a sturdy link before wearing, and avoid snagging or heavy pulls on the charms and chain.

Q: What hallmarks or stamps should I expect on a vintage Chanel choker?
A: Vintage Chanel necklaces typically feature an oval or round plaque stamped CHANEL and, depending on era, a season code and country of origin. Placement and format vary by season. Please refer to our listing photos to view any stamps present on this piece.

Q: Is it suitable for sensitive skin? Is it nickel‑free?
A: Vintage fashion jewellery alloys and platings may contain nickel. If you have sensitivities, consider limiting direct skin contact, apply a clear barrier product on contact points, and discontinue wear if irritation occurs. Contact us for further guidance if needed.

Q: How should I care for the leather and gold‑tone finish?
A: Keep it dry and away from perfume, hairspray, lotions and hand sanitiser. After wear, gently wipe metal parts with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and lightly buff the leather with a clean, dry cloth—do not use leather creams or water on the interwoven leather. Do not soak or use ultrasonic/chemical cleaners. Store flat in a pouch/box, away from humidity and direct sunlight, to prevent scratches and preserve the plating and leather.

Q: Can I wear it in water or during exercise?
A: We don’t recommend it. Moisture and sweat can dull or lift the gold‑tone plating and may dry or distort the leather. Remove the choker before showering, swimming, or vigorous activity.

Q: Can it be repaired, replated or the leather replaced?
A: Specialist workshops can often address minor clasp issues, perform gentle replating, or re‑weave/replace interlaced leather. Chanel boutiques may offer service at their discretion for vintage pieces. Any modification can affect originality and resale value—contact us for reputable specialists if needed.

Q: What condition should I expect, what is included, and can I return it?
A: This choker is in Very Good Condition with hardware described as shiny with scratches, consistent with careful vintage wear. It is delivered with no accessories unless specifically shown or stated. Returns are accepted under our standard policy—please see our Returns page for eligibility, timeframes and conditions, and ensure the item is returned in the same condition received.
