Q: Are these suitable for non‑pierced ears?
A: Yes. The clip‑on closure is designed for non‑pierced lobes and can also be worn by pierced ears. For extra comfort, you can add silicone pads and gently adjust the clip tension so they sit secure without pinching.

Q: Will clip‑on earrings hurt after a few hours?
A: Properly adjusted clip‑ons should feel secure without discomfort. If you feel pressure, take short breaks, add soft pads, and slightly loosen the clip tension so it grips but doesn’t squeeze. Start with shorter wear times and build up as your ears get used to them.

Q: How secure is the closure—will they fall off?
A: When adjusted correctly, hinge clip‑ons hold well for day‑to‑evening wear. Place them on the thicker part of the lobe and keep skin free of oils or lotion. Non‑slip pads can increase grip if you have fine or tapered lobes.

Q: Can these be converted for pierced ears?
A: Some jewellers can add posts to clip‑on earrings, but on vintage enamel and gold‑plated pieces the work is delicate and may mark plating or stress the enamel. Any modification may affect collectible value. We don’t offer conversion; if you choose to proceed, consult a skilled jeweller first.

Q: How should I care for the enamel and gold‑plated finish?
A: After wear, wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid perfume, hairspray, lotions, and chlorinated or salt water. If needed, clean briefly with pH‑neutral soap and lukewarm water, then dry thoroughly. Do not use abrasives, silver polish, or ultrasonic cleaners. Store each earring separately in a soft pouch to prevent scratches and knocks that could chip enamel.

Q: Can Hermès repair enamel chips or re‑plate the hardware?
A: Hermès boutiques offer after‑sales assessment and can advise on available jewellery services. Enamel chips on fashion jewellery can be challenging to restore and outcomes vary, so an in‑person evaluation is recommended.

Q: What exactly is included with this item?
A: Everything included is listed under the Product Information on this page. If an original box, pouch or care card is not listed there, it is not included.

Q: What are the measurements and how do they sit on the ear?
A: Approx. 2 cm high by 1 cm wide. The compact, vintage profile sits neatly on the lobe without extending far beyond its edge. Please review the images and Product Information for proportions.

Q: How do you authenticate these earrings?
A: Every item at A Retro Tale is rigorously checked by our in‑house experts using multi‑point inspection of materials, stamping and construction. Please note that Hermès states it cannot verify items purchased outside its own boutiques or website; our authentication and guarantee apply to the pieces we sell.
