Q: What typically fits inside the Louis Vuitton Epi Saint Jacques PM Bag?
A: The PM is best for everyday essentials rather than bulky work items. With approximate measurements of 43 × 30 × 12 cm, it should comfortably hold a wallet, phone, keys, sunglasses, a small cosmetic pouch and similar daily items. Because the shape is structured and slightly tapered, capacity can feel smaller than the width suggests, so please compare your essentials with the Measurements listed on this page.

Q: Can this bag be carried on the shoulder?
A: Yes. This Saint Jacques PM is designed as a shoulder bag with dual flat straps. The listed strap drop is approximately 27 cm, which usually gives enough room for comfortable shoulder carry, though the fit can vary depending on your frame and outerwear. It is not designed as a crossbody style.

Q: Will it fit a laptop or documents?
A: It is better suited to daily essentials than to a laptop-bag role. Slim papers or a small tablet may fit depending on size, but the structured silhouette and zip-top opening make it less practical for most laptops or thicker folders. Please compare your item with the bag’s measurements before purchasing.

Q: Is Epi leather durable?
A: Yes. Epi leather is one of Louis Vuitton’s most durable classic materials, known for its embossed texture, structured feel and good resistance to everyday wear. As with any vintage leather bag, it can still show rubbing, scratches or softening over time, so gentle use and proper storage are recommended.

Q: How should I care for vintage Epi leather?
A: For routine care, wipe the leather gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth and then dry it with a clean cloth. Avoid oils, perfumes, alcohol-based products, hand sanitiser and harsh commercial leather cleaners. When not in use, store the bag in a cool, dry place and lightly stuff it to help maintain its shape.

Q: What does the date code AS0946 mean?
A: Louis Vuitton date codes from this era indicate where and when the bag was made. AS denotes production in France, and 0946 decodes to April 1996. Date codes are useful for understanding age and production details, but they are not unique serial numbers and should not be used alone to judge authenticity.

Q: What is the condition of this bag?
A: According to this item’s product information, the exterior and interior are in very good condition with light traces of use, and the hardware remains shiny with light scratches. As this is a vintage piece, minor signs of age are normal and are best reviewed together with the product images.

Q: What is included with this bag?
A: No additional items are listed in the product information for this piece. If something such as a box, dust bag or authenticity card is not stated there, it should not be expected to be included.

Q: How do you authenticate this bag?
A: At A Retro Tale, vintage designer pieces are checked for key authenticity markers such as materials, construction, hardware, stamps and date codes. The date code and made-in details should support the item, but authenticity is always assessed through multiple points rather than one feature alone.
