Q: What is the Omega Seamaster 300M Jacques Mayol 36mm (1999)?
A: It’s a late‑1990s special edition of the Seamaster 300M honouring legendary free‑diver Jacques Mayol. This 36mm model features a stainless steel case and bracelet, a green wave dial with date, and a unidirectional diving bezel—combining classic Seamaster functionality with a distinctive ocean‑inspired look.

Q: Is it water‑resistant and can I swim with it?
A: The Seamaster 300M line was originally rated to 300 metres. However, water resistance on vintage watches cannot be guaranteed. We recommend avoiding swimming or showering unless the watch has been recently serviced, re‑sealed and pressure‑tested by a qualified watchmaker. Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down before any exposure to moisture.

Q: What movement does the 36mm Jacques Mayol typically use—automatic or quartz?
A: This edition was produced in both automatic and quartz variants in the late 1990s. If you’d like us to confirm the exact movement in this specific watch, please contact us. A sweeping seconds hand generally indicates automatic, while a once‑per‑second “tick” typically indicates quartz.

Q: How do I set the time and date?
A: Unscrew the crown anti‑clockwise. Position 1: manual wind (for automatic versions only—give 20–30 turns if the watch has stopped). Position 2: quickset the date. Position 3: set the time. Avoid changing the date between approximately 8pm and 2am to protect the mechanism. When finished, push the crown in and screw it down firmly.

Q: How do I use the unidirectional bezel?
A: Rotate the bezel anti‑clockwise to align the triangle/zero marker with the minute hand at the start of an activity. The minute hand then points to the elapsed time on the bezel. The one‑way rotation helps prevent accidental extension of timing during diving. Do not force the bezel if it feels obstructed—have it checked by a watchmaker if stiff.

Q: What wrist size will the 36mm case suit, and is it unisex?
A: 36mm offers a refined, mid‑size presence that suits many small to medium wrists and wears well unisex. This bracelet currently fits a wrist up to approximately 18cm; we can advise on sizing or sourcing additional links subject to availability.

Q: What is included—box, papers, or accessories?
A: This watch is delivered with no accessories unless otherwise stated. Please refer to the listing’s Accessories section; if you need clarification, feel free to contact us.

Q: What condition is it in, and how often should it be serviced?
A: Overall Very Good vintage condition, with light traces of use and surface scratches on the bezel, case and bracelet. As a guideline, automatic movements are often serviced every 5–10 years; quartz models usually need periodic battery changes and gasket checks. A Retro Tale includes a 12‑month mechanical guarantee on all watches.

Q: How can I verify authenticity and the production year of this piece?
A: A Retro Tale specialises in authentic luxury vintage and thoroughly inspects every item. This watch is Swiss‑made, and the serial number (60129517) dates it to 1999. We’re happy to share detailed photos and confirm movement/reference details on request.

Q: Can I source parts or swap the bracelet for a strap?
A: Many parts for Seamaster 300M models—bracelet links, crystals, bezels, and seals—can be sourced through authorised watchmakers or reputable vintage specialists. Quality straps are available; ensure correct fitment for this 36mm case and end‑links. Contact us for sizing guidance and sourcing options.
