Q: Are these authentic Chanel earrings?
A: Yes. Every item at A Retro Tale is thoroughly authenticated by our in‑house experts using multi‑point checks of materials, stamping, construction and hardware. We stand behind the authenticity of all items we sell and can share additional close‑up photos or details on request.

Q: Are these for pierced ears or clip‑on?
A: This pair features a post back closure for pierced ears. If you prefer extra support for the lobe, you can use larger comfort disc backs with the posts for added stability.

Q: How big are they and how do they sit on the ear?
A: Approx. 3.8 cm high x 1.8 cm wide. The sailboat element sits on the lobe like a stud and the rhinestone CC charm dangles just below, giving a playful drop look with moderate presence.

Q: What are they made of—are they solid gold?
A: These are Chanel costume jewellery earrings. They are crafted in gold‑tone plated metal with rhinestone crystals and are not solid gold. Chanel’s fashion (costume) line typically uses gilt or gold‑plated base metals and glass/crystal stones, while the fine jewellery line uses precious metals and gemstones.

Q: Are they hypoallergenic or nickel‑free?
A: Chanel does not advertise its costume jewellery as nickel‑free, and sensitivity varies by person. If you have known metal sensitivities, consider trying for short periods first or using barrier/comfort backs; those with strong nickel allergies often prefer fine jewellery metals like platinum, high‑karat gold or titanium.

Q: How should I care for these vintage Chanel earrings?
A: Follow Chanel’s care guidance: put on earrings after applying perfume, hairspray or skincare; avoid contact with water, humidity and high heat; remove before exercising; store them separately in a dry place; and wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wear.

Q: Can I clean the rhinestones at home?
A: Yes—use a soft, dry lint‑free cloth to lift fingerprints and dust. If needed, use a barely damp cloth on metal areas only and dry immediately. Do not soak, do not use ultrasonic cleaners, and avoid harsh chemicals, which can affect plating and stone settings.

Q: How can I tell the era of vintage Chanel earrings?
A: Many vintage pieces have a Chanel signature plaque or stamp on the back. Earlier pieces often show an oval cartouche, and later pieces may include season codes. We are happy to provide macro photos of any hallmarks on this pair to assist with dating references.

Q: What is included in this listing?
A: This listing is for the earrings only. Everything included is listed in the product information section; if an item is not listed there, it is not included.

Q: What is the condition?
A: Very Good overall with light traces of use. The gold‑tone hardware is shiny with light scratches consistent with careful wear. Please review the photos for the most accurate view.
